Women’s Tennis Starts Busy Week with Non-Conference Win

WESTON, Mass. - Regis College defeated Suffolk University, 8-1, in a non-conference women's collegiate tennis dual match at the Regis Tennis Courts.

The three doubles sets were all competitive, but the Pride were able to grab the momentum with a sweep. Kiana Thompson (Boynton Beach, Fla.) and Stephanie Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.) were the first to finish with an 8-5 victory at number one doubles, right before Samantha Gevry (Dudley, Mass.) and Harmony Lopez (Carlsbad, N.M.) completed their win at number two doubles by the same score. Sophi Machado (Hopedale, Mass.) and Nora Connor (Peabody, Mass.) earned an 8-6 victory at number three doubles.

The Pride used that momentum to win five of the six singles matches, all in straight sets. Connor did not lose a single game at number six singles (6-0, 6-0), while Thompson at number one singles and Gevry at number four singles dropped just one game in the first set of their respective matches (6-1, 6-0). Beatrice battled to win the first set before cruising in the second set at number two singles (6-4, 6-0), and Lopez picked up a straight-set win at number three singles (6-4, 6-3).

Regis College (3-2, 0-1 GNAC) continues the busy week by welcoming Albertus Magnus for a conference match Wednesday, Sept. 27, starting at 5 p.m. Suffolk (1-4, 0-1 CCC) hosts Curry in a league match Wednesday night beginning at 6:30 p.m.
