Beatrice, Thompson Participate in ITA Regional Tourney

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Senior Stephanie Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.) and sophomore Kiana Thompson (Boynton Beach, Fla.) participated in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) New England Regional Tournament Friday, hosted by Wesleyan University at the John Wood Memorial Tennis Courts and Bacon Field House.

Thompson was the first Pride player to step onto the tennis court as she was placed in the "A" bracket. In the first round, she lost to Kim Liao of MIT in straight sets (6-1, 6-4), snapping a 12-match winning streak in singles for Thompson since she started her collegiate career last year.

Beatrice was placed in the "B" bracket for singles and started with a match in the round of 32. Playing an eight-game pro-set, Beatrice lost to Sabrina Loui of Brandeis, 8-0.

Beatrice and Thompson teamed up to compete in the 48-team doubles bracket, with the top 16 teams receiving byes into the second round. In the first round, the Pride duo lost to Annika Chai and Jaskirat Kaur of Mount Holyoke, 8-5.

Regis College (2-2, 0-1 GNAC) returns to team competition with three home matches in five days, starting Tuesday, Sept. 26, against Suffolk at 4 p.m. The Pride then play conference foes Albertus Magnus Wednesday, Sept. 27, at 5 p.m., and University of Saint Joseph next Saturday, Sept. 30, at 1 p.m. as part of Regis Fest.
