Regis Women’s Tennis Loses at Roger Williams

BRISTOL, R.I. - Sophomore Kiana Thompson (Boynton Beach, Fla.) extended her singles winning streak to 12 matches, but Roger Williams University was able to defeat Regis College, 8-1, Thursday afternoon in a non-conference women's collegiate tennis match at the RWU Tennis Courts.

Roger Williams (3-0) swept the doubles sets, but not without resistance from the Pride. At number one doubles, Thompson and Samantha Gevry (Dudley, Mass.) battled Gianna Ferraro and Alessia Cahoon before losing, 8-5, while Harmony Lopez (Carlsbad, N.M.) and Nora Connor (Peabody, Mass.) played a tight set at number two doubles before Gracie McCarthy and Liv Santoro prevailed, 8-6.

With the teams playing pro sets in singles due to the heat, the Hawks clinched the overall match thanks to victories in the fourth, fifth, and sixth singles positions. Thompson picked up Regis' lone point with an 8-3 victory over Ferraro at number one singles, but the home team would collect the rest of the points in the second and third singles spots.

Regis College (1-1) heads to Springfield, Mass., to face Western New England Saturday, Sept. 9, beginning at 12 p.m.
