Harmony Lopez Named GNAC Women’s Tennis Player of Week

WINTHROP, Mass. - After clinching last Friday's season-opening victory over Bridgewater State, junior Harmony Lopez (Carlsbad, N.M.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Tennis Player of the Week, announced Tuesday, Sept. 5, by the league office.

Lopez won in both doubles and singles Friday. First, she teamed with Stephanie Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.) at number two doubles to defeat Bridgewater State's Allison Carter and Meghan Lotti, 8-5, to help the Pride bring a 2-1 advantage into singles competition.

At number four singles, Lopez defeated Yasmine Queen of Bridgewater State in straight sets (6-0, 6-4) to clinch the overall match for Regis. The Pride would prevail over the Bears, 5-4, with Lopez and Kiana Thompson (Boynton Beach, Fla.) emerging victorious in both singles and doubles.

This is Lopez's first career GNAC weekly award. Last year, a Regis player earned GNAC Player of the Week honors twice and GNAC Rookie of the Week recognition five times.

Regis College (1-0) is scheduled for three straight road matches, including two this week as the Pride head to Bristol, R.I., to face Roger Williams Thursday, Sept. 7, starting at 4 p.m. Regis will then travel to Springfield, Mass., to take on Western New England Saturday, Sept. 9, at 12 p.m.
