Women’s Tennis Closes Season with Road Victory

WALPOLE, Mass. - Regis College clinched its 10th consecutive competition season with double digit victories, earning its 10th win of 2022-23 with a 9-0 victory over Curry College Sunday afternoon at the Wimbledon 109 Tennis Club.

The Pride opened play with convincing 8-1 victories for the doubles teams of Kiana Thompson (Boynton Beach, Fla.) and Samantha Gevry (Dudley, Mass.) at number one doubles and Stephanie Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.) and Harmony Lopez (Carlsbad, N.M.) at number two doubles. At number three doubles, the duo of Akshita Duvvuri (Chennai, India) and Nora Connor (Peabody, Mass.) picked up an 8-5 win to give Regis a 3-0 advantage heading into singles.

Duvvuri earned her first career collegiate singles win with a straight-set victory in the sixth position (6-3, 6-3). Connor lost just two games in her straight-set win at number five singles (6-0, 6-2), while Gevry (6-1, 6-2), Beatrice (6-2, 6-1), and Lopez (6-0, 6-3) dropped just three games apiece in completing their own straight-set decisions.

For the first time all year, Thompson lost a set in singles, but she rallied back from dropping the first set to pull out a three-set victory (0-6, 6-1, 6-4) at number one singles.

Regis College concludes the 2022-23 season with a 10-3 overall record for a .769 winning percentage, the team's best since the 2016-17 campaign. In the fall, the Pride went 5-1 in conference play and advanced to the championship match of the GNAC Tournament for the second straight year.
