Regis Women’s Tennis Battles Back to Defeat Salve Regina, 5-4

WESTON, Mass. - Regis College battled back from an early deficit after doubles play, winning four of six singles matches to defeat Salve Regina University, 5-4, Thursday afternoon in a non-conference women's collegiate tennis match at the Regis Tennis Courts.

Down 2-1 after doubles, Regis tied the match thanks to a straight-set victory by Nora Connor (Peabody, Mass.) at number five singles (6-3, 6-1). For just the second time during the 2022-23 season, Kiana Thompson (Boynton Beach, Fla.) was forced into a set tiebreaker, but she took the first set, 7-2 in the tiebreaker, before completing her ninth straight-set victory this year without a loss at number one singles (7-6 (2), 6-0).

After Salve Regina pulled back into a 3-3 tie, Samantha Gevry (Dudley, Mass.) completed her straight-set victory at number two singles, also prevailing in a first-set tiebreaker (7-6 (4), 6-2). Stephanie Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.) took the first set at number three singles and then rallied from an early deficit in the second set, forcing a tiebreaker and winning it to clinch the overall match for the Pride (6-2, 7-6 (2)).

Beatrice and Harmony Lopez (Carlsbad, N.M.) teamed to pick up Regis' sole point in doubles, 8-4. At number four singles, Lopez came back from losing the first set, 6-1, to win the second set, 6-0. She was pushed to the limit in the third set before falling, 7-5 in the tiebreaker.

Regis College (9-3) is scheduled to travel to Milton, Mass., to face Curry College Sunday, April 16, beginning at 12 p.m.
