WESTON, Mass. - For the second consecutive year, the Regis College women's tennis team has advanced to the championship match of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament after defeating third seed Simmons University, 5-0, in a tournament semifinal Saturday afternoon at the Regis Tennis Courts.

The second seeded Pride started by sweeping the doubles sets, beginning with Kiana Thompson (Boynton Beach, Fla.) and Samantha Gevry (Dudley, Mass.) winning their contest at number one doubles, 8-1. Katelyn Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Stephanie Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.) followed at number two doubles, 8-3, and Harmony Lopez (Carlsbad, N.M.) and Nora Connor (Peabody, Mass.) pulled out their match at number three doubles by taking the tiebreaker, 8-6, for an 8-7 win.

In singles, Mogelnicki completed her straight-set victory at number two singles (6-1, 6-2), and then Thompson clinched the match for the Pride with her eighth consecutive win in the number one position (6-2, 6-0). Gevry, Lopez, and Connor all won the first set of their respective matches and were in the middle of the second set when the contest reached decision.

Regis College (8-2) will head to New London, N.H., to face top seed Colby-Sawyer College in the championship match of the 2022 GNAC Women's Tennis Tournament next Saturday, Oct. 22, with the start time to be determined.
