WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - Regis College closed out a stretch of three matches in three days with a 6-3 victory over University of Saint Joseph Saturday in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's tennis match at the Elizabeth Ferry Speer Tennis Complex.
Katelyn Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Stephanie Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.) started collecting points for the Pride with an 8-2 victory at number one doubles. After the Blue Jays tied the match at 1-1, Samantha Gevry (Dudley, Mass.) and Harmony Lopez (Carlsbad, N.M.) prevailed in a tiebreaker, 7-5, to win the set at number two doubles, 8-7.
Gevry earned Regis' first singles victory in the number three position with a straight-set win (6-1, 6-1), followed by a straight-set win at the number one position for Mogelnicki (6-4, 6-2). Lopez clinched the match for the Pride with a straight-set victory in the number four position (6-2, 6-3), and Nora Connor (Peabody, Mass.) also earned a straight-set win in the number five position (6-3, 6-2).
Regis College concludes the conference schedule with a 5-1 mark, its best regular season league record since the 2017-18 season, the Pride's first in the GNAC. The team will prepare for the upcoming GNAC Tournament, with the entire schedule to be announced sometime after the conclusion of play Saturday.
