Regis Women’s Tennis Extends Winning Streak to Five

WESTON, Mass. - After nearly two weeks between competitions due to weather, Regis College quickly regained its momentum, defeating Lesley University, 9-0, Thursday evening in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's tennis match at the Regis Tennis Courts.

The Pride got off to a strong start in the doubles, beginning with Samantha Gevry (Dudley, Mass.) and Kiana Thompson (Boynton Beach, Fla.) with an 8-0 victory at number one doubles. Nora Connor (Peabody, Mass.) and Harmony Lopez (Carlsbad, N.M.) earned an 8-2 victory at number three doubles, and Stephanie Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.) and Katelyn Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 decision in the number two position.

At number four singles, Gevry completed her singles match first with a straight-set victory without losing a single game (6-0, 6-0). Thompson clinched the overall contest for the Pride as she continued her winning ways with a straight-set victory (6-3, 6-0) at number one singles.

Beatrice was next off the court after a win at number three singles (6-4, 6-2), followed by Lopez at number five singles as she prevailed in a first-set tiebreaker before taking the second set (7-6, 6-1). Connor picked up the victory at number six singles in straight sets (6-2, 6-1), and Mogelnicki closed out the match with a win at number two singles (7-6, 6-2).

Regis College (6-1, 4-0 GNAC) hosts Colby-Sawyer College Friday, Oct. 7, beginning at 5 p.m. in a battle between the top two teams currently in the GNAC standings. Lesley (7-5, 2-3 GNAC) heads to New Haven, Conn., to face Albertus Magnus Saturday, Oct. 8, starting at 3 p.m.
