Women’s Tennis Opens GNAC Slate with Sweep

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Regis College opened its 2022 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) schedule with a convincing 9-0 victory over Albertus Magnus College Saturday afternoon in women's tennis action at Celentano Courts.

The Pride grabbed the first two points right away, as the number two doubles team of Katelyn Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Stephanie Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.) as well as the third doubles combination of Harmony Lopez (Carlsbad, N.M.) and Nora Connor (Peabody, Mass.) both won their doubles sets, 8-0. Kiana Thompson (Boynton Beach, Fla.) and Samantha Gevry (Dudley, Mass.) prevailed in their contest in the first position, 8-5, as they remain undefeated so far this season.

Regis clinched the team match thanks to straight-set victories for Gevry, Lopez, and Connor without dropping a single game (6-0, 6-0), while Thompson lost just one game in the second set of her match (6-0, 6-1), and Beatrice also cruised to victory in straight sets (6-1, 6-1). After losing the first set, Mogelnicki came back to win the second set and the super-tiebreaker, 10-6, to complete the sweep for the Pride (3-6, 6-4, 1-0).

Regis College (3-1, 1-0 GNAC) heads to Brighton and the Daly Field Tennis Courts Wednesday, Sept. 21, to face Simmons University beginning at 4 p.m. The Pride then host Eastern Nazarene during Regis Fest next Saturday, Sept. 24, starting at 12 p.m.
