Regis Women’s Tennis Sweeps Salem State

SALEM, Mass. – Regis College cruised to a 9-0 victory over Salem State University Thursday afternoon in a non-conference women's collegiate tennis match at the SSU Tennis Courts.

The Pride began the contest by finishing three convincing victories in doubles minutes apart, starting with an 8-0 win by Kiana Thompson (Boynton Beach, Fla.) and Samantha Gevry (Dudley, Mass.) in the first position. Harmony Lopez (Carlsbad, N.M.) and Nora Connor (Peabody, Mass.) earned an 8-1 victory in the third doubles position, right before Katelyn Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Stephanie Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-2 win in the second position.

Thompson earned her third singles victory in as many matches with a straight-set win at number one singles (6-1, 6-0) right before Lopez clinched the overall contest for the Pride in straight sets at number five singles (6-0, 6-0). Gevry (6-1, 6-1), Beatrice (6-0, 6-1), Mogelnicki (6-3, 6-0), and Connor (6-2, 6-0) followed in completing their straight-set victories, with Connor picking up her first career collegiate singles victory.

Regis College (2-1) opens Great Northeast Athletic Conference competition with a trip to New Haven, Conn., to face Albertus Magnus Saturday, Sept. 17, with first serve scheduled for 3 p.m.
