Pride Women’s Tennis Loses to Roger Williams

WESTON, Mass. – After a tough battle in doubles, Roger Williams University took control of the singles competition on its way to a 7-2 victory over Regis College Thursday afternoon in a non-conference women's collegiate tennis match at the Regis Tennis Courts.

Thanks to the tandem of Izzy Pecora and Olivia Santoro, Roger Williams picked up the first point at number three doubles while the other two doubles sets went to tiebreakers. At number one doubles, Samantha Gevry (Dudley, Mass.) and Kiana Thompson (Boynton Beach, Fla.) prevailed in their tiebreaker, 7-3, to win that contest. Katelyn Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Stephanie Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.) battled Gianna Ferraro and Gracie McCarthy, but the Hawk duo pulled away in the end to give the visitors a 2-1 lead heading into singles.

Roger Williams won five of six singles matches to earn the team victory, with Ferraro clinching the match with a straight-set victory at number two singles. At number one singles, Thompson would defeat Emma Place in a first set tiebreaker before cruising to her second straight-set victory in as many matches (7-6, 6-0).

Regis College (1-1) will play its next four matches away from home, starting Tuesday, Sept. 13, at UMass Boston beginning at 4 p.m. Roger Williams (2-0) travels to Manchester, N.H., to face Saint Anselm College Sunday, Sept. 11, with first serve set for 1 p.m.
