Women’s Tennis Loses Home Finale to Nichols

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College battled throughout the afternoon, but Nichols College came away with an 8-1 victory Monday afternoon in a non-conference women's collegiate tennis match at the Regis Tennis Courts.

Nichols (11-5) took the early lead by winning all three doubles sets. The most competitive doubles contest took place in the second position, as Stephanie Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.) and Kaitlyn Colby (Merrimac, Mass.) played for one hour before finally falling to Jordan Knowles and Johanna Schroeder, 8-5.

After Kelley Carlin scored the first singles point for the Bison, Schroeder clinched the overall match with a straight-set victory. At number four singles, Colby and Knowles seemingly played point-for-point through the first set, but Knowles would use the momentum from winning the set to complete her victory (7-5, 6-1).

Samantha Gevry (Dudley, Mass.) collected the Pride's only point of the match with a straight-set win at number five singles (6-3, 6-3). In the number one singles position, Lauren Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) took the first set before Antonia Carrero rallied back to claim the second set and a tightly-contested super-tiebreaker, 10-8, for the final point of the contest (4-6, 6-1, 1-0).

Regis College (9-11) closes out the 2021-22 season with a trip to Newport, R.I., to face Salve Regina Thursday, Apr. 14, starting at 4 p.m.
