Women’s Tennis Defeats Saint Anselm

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Thanks to a thrilling three-set victory by Stephanie Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.), Regis College was able to come from behind to defeat Saint Anselm College, 5-4, Sunday afternoon in a non-conference women's collegiate tennis match at the SNHU Penman Stadium Tennis Courts.

In the third singles position, Beatrice took the first set, 6-3, before Julia Svor of Saint Anselm extended the match by winning the second set, 6-4. Beatrice pulled out to the lead in the third set and eventually clinched the overall team victory by prevailing in the set, 6-4.

All three doubles sets ended at 8-3 with Saint Anselm earning two points on victories in the first and second doubles positions. The duo of Samantha Gevry (Dudley, Mass.) and Harmony Lopez (Carlsbad, N.M.) picked up a key point for the Pride heading into singles competition.

Saint Anselm won the first point in singles before Gevry brought the Pride back within one with a straight-set victory in the fifth position (6-1, 6-2). After the Hawks earned their fourth point at number one singles, Regis started its rally with a straight-set victory by Lopez in the sixth position (6-0, 6-4).

The Pride would pull into a 4-4 tie thanks to a straight-set win by Katelyn Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) in the second singles position (6-4, 6-2). The two teams would then concentrate on supporting Beatrice and Svor for over 45 minutes as their match was the last one to be completed.

Regis College (9-10) is scheduled to play its final home match of the 2021-22 season Thursday, April 7, against Nichols College beginning at 4 p.m.
