Pride Women’s Tennis Sweeps GNAC Weekly Awards

WINTHROP, Mass. – After extending its winning streak to three with victories over Salem State and Albertus Magnus last week, the Regis College women's tennis team swept the weekly conference awards, as senior Lauren Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) was named Player of the Week and first-year player Samantha Gevry (Dudley, Mass.) received Rookie of the Week honors from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), announced Monday afternoon by the league office.

Mogelnicki helped the Pride win both matches over the past week. Against Salem State, she rebounded from a doubles loss to win her singles contest in straight sets (6-3, 6-3). She then battled through competitive matches in both doubles (8-5) and singles (6-4, 7-5) Saturday against Albertus Magnus, pulling out her singles match in straight sets by breaking serve in the clinching game.

Gevry lost just one game in the entire week as Regis improved to 3-2 overall and 2-0 within the GNAC. She did not drop a game in winning her singles match (6-0, 6-0) against Salem State Tuesday. Saturday against Albertus Magnus, she won her doubles contest, 8-0, and then lost just one game in the first set on her way to a straight-set singles victory (6-1, 6-0).

These are the first GNAC weekly awards for the Regis women's tennis team since Carly Donovan was named GNAC Player of the Week Oct. 7, 2019.

Regis will host University of St. Joseph Wednesday, Sept. 22, starting at 4:30 p.m. and Simmons University Saturday, Sept. 25, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
