Regis Women’s Tennis Enters 2019 Schedule as GNAC Contender

2019-20 REGIS COLLEGE WOMEN'S TENNIS SCHEDULE (COMPLETE FOR FALL 2019)

WINTHROP, Mass. – After advancing to the semifinals of the 2018 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament, the Regis College women's tennis team enters the fall 2019 competition schedule as one of the contenders within the league, as the preseason coaches' poll was released by the conference office Wednesday.

Regis was one of four teams to receive at least one first place vote, totaling 50 points to finish second in the poll. Johnson & Wales led the way with three first place votes and 58 total points, followed by the Pride, Eastern Nazarene with one first place vote and 49 points, and defending champion Colby-Sawyer with three first place votes and 46 total points.

The Chargers finished 15 points ahead of fifth place Simmons' 31 points, with Suffolk finishing in sixth place with 25 points, Saint Joseph ending up seventh with 20 points, and Albertus Magnus placing eighth with nine points. The top six teams in the final regular season standings will qualify for the GNAC Tournament, starting with the first round Wednesday, Oct. 16, and culminating with the semifinals Saturday, Oct. 19, and championship Sunday, Oct. 20, both at Winchester Tennis Club.

Regis starts the 2019 season with three straight Saturday road trips, beginning Aug. 31 against Thomas College on the campus of Colby College in Waterville, Maine. The GNAC slate for the Pride commences Sept. 7 at Simmons, followed by a contest at Eastern Nazarene Sept. 14.

The home opener for the Pride takes place Wednesday, Sept. 18, against Suffolk, followed by a key contest Saturday, Sept. 21, when Regis welcomes Colby-Sawyer. After a match at Harvard University against Lesley Tuesday, Sept. 24, Regis faces preseason favorite Johnson & Wales during Regis Fest Saturday, Sept. 28.

The Pride play at Clark University Thursday, Oct. 3, followed by a conference contest at Saint Joseph in Connecticut Saturday, Oct. 5. Regis hosts Worcester State Thursday, Oct. 10, before closing the fall regular season at Albertus Magnus Saturday, Oct. 12.

Second-year head coach Andy White welcomes back seven returners for the fall 2019 season. The Pride finished fourth in the GNAC last season with a 4-3 league mark as part of a 13-8 overall record.
