Women’s Tennis Holds on for Victory

BRISTOL, R.I. - The Regis College women's tennis team traveled to Roger Williams Friday evening for a non-conference match, edging out the Hawks 5-4.

Roger Williams' pairing of Morgan Crimmins and Libby Bennett took down their opponents in second doubles, 8-3. The Pride responded with an 8-3 win of their own in first doubles when Katasha Jarvis (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) and Carly Donovan (Harwich, Mass.) beat Heidi Martin and Riley Spillane to even up the match at a point apiece. In third doubles, Oriana Attridge (Westwood, Mass.) and Kaeleigh FitzPatrick (South Windsor, Conn.) fell to their opponents, Tanya Gianitsos and Alexa DeCesare, in a tight 8-6 match.

Donovan won her match at first singles in straight sets (6-4, 6-0) to even up the match at 2-2.  FitzPatrick then took her match at fifth singles (6-0, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7)) in a super tiebreaker which, and Katelyn Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) followed with a victory at third singles (6-3, 6-1).

With the Pride holding a 4-2 advantage, the Hawks' Gianitsos scored a win in fourth singles (6-1, 6-3) to close the gap in team scoring to one. Roger Williams tied up the match with a 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) victory in sixth singles.

With the score tied, 4-4, Jarvis picked up a 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 victory in second singles to seal the match for the Pride.

Roger Williams (7-8) has concluded its season of play with today's match.

The Pride (13-7) will play on Wednesday, Apr. 17 to round out the 2018-19 season when they travel to take on Gordon.
