Katasha Jarvis Named GNAC Women’s Tennis Player of Week

WINTHROP, Mass. – After leading Regis College to its fifth consecutive victory Saturday, 8-1 over Albertus Magnus, senior Katasha Jarvis (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Tennis Player of the Week, announced Monday afternoon by the league office.

Jarvis started the day teaming with Ariana McCormack (Worcester, Mass.) at number one doubles, and the duo battled to an 8-6 victory over Albertus Magnus's top doubles team of Jessica Coughlin and Izzy Sabino. At number three singles, Jarvis cruised to a straight-set victory over Nallely Magana (6-0, 6-0), one of four singles matches won by Regis without losing a game.

The lone senior on this year's Pride squad, Jarvis tied Emily Rice for the school record for most career singles victories with 45. In addition, Jarvis earned her 42nd career doubles victory, third-most in program history, and her 17 wins with McCormack are one less than the Regis record for most career wins by a doubles team, which she holds with Rice at 18.

"I am very happy for Kat! She has had to overcome a lot of adversity during her career here at Regis, so it is nice to some of her hard work pay off and be recognized," Regis head tennis coach Andy White said.

This is the second straight week a Regis competitor has been the GNAC Player of the Week, following Carly Donovan's (Harwich, Mass.) award last week. Jarvis earns a conference weekly award for the first time since being named NECC Rookie of the Week four times during the 2015 fall season on her way to NECC Rookie of the Year honors.

Regis (6-1, 4-1 GNAC) closes the home portion of the fall schedule Thursday, Oct. 4, against Clark starting at 4:30 p.m. The Pride travel to face Colby-Sawyer (Oct. 6) and Johnson & Wales (Oct. 13) before the beginning of the GNAC Women's Tennis Tournament Oct. 17.
