Donovan Repeats as GNAC Rookie of the Week

WINTHROP, Mass. - For the second time in as many weeks, freshman Carly Donovan (Harwich, Mass.) of the Regis (Mass.) women's tennis team has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week.

Donovan defended her title this week as she led her team to a pair of crucial 5-4 GNAC wins over Suffolk on Wednesday and Simmons on Sunday. Donovan did not drop a set playing at No. 1 singles. She opened the week in dominating fashion, defeating Suffolk's No. 1 6-1, 6-1, before defeating Simmons' No. 1 6-3, 6-2.

In doubles play, Donovan and partner Carly Scanlon (Canton, Mass.) split their two matches on the week at No. 2 doubles. Against Suffolk, Donovan and Scanlon forced a tie-break but would lose, but the pair would get their redemption by winning 9-7 over Simmons on Sunday. The win put the Pride ahead 2-1 entering singles play, which would prove vital as the teams split the six singles matches.

Donovan and the Pride continue GNAC action at the Regis Tennis Center this week, hosting Johnson & Wales on Wednesday and Mount Ida on Saturday.
