Women’s Tennis Edges Suffolk, Remains Perfect In GNAC

WESTON, Mass.Katasha Jarvis (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) and Ariana McCormack (Worcester, Mass.) dominated at doubles and singles to lift the Regis (Mass.) women's tennis team to a thrilling 5-4 win over Suffolk Wednesday at the Regis Tennis Center and remain perfect (2-0) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play.

Carly Scanlon (Canton, Mass.), after being edged with partner Carly Donovan (Harwich, Mass.) in a two doubles tiebreak, delivered the match clincher with her win at third singles. Her 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 win over Elena Cisneros Garcia (Barcelona, Spain) helped the Pride to a 3-1 overall record.

Regis had to rally after doubles play to earn the win. Scanlon and Donovan's 9-8 (9-7) loss on the two court to the Suffolk pair of Delany Dunlap (Hingham, Mass.) and Keely Hardy (Charleston, S.C.) broke a 1-1 tie in the match and gave the Rams (2-4, 1-1 GNAC) the lead heading into singles play.

Donovan and Jarvis were the first two to finish, collecting straight-set wins on the one and two courts, respectively. The results then went back-and-forth beginning with Danlyn Medou (Inglewood, Calif.) taking down Sara Kanarkiewicz (Peabody, Mass.) in straight sets at the six.

McCormack responded with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Hardy on the four court but Ahilya Malhoutra tied the match once again with her 6-2, 6-2 win over Amy DiPace (Cambridge, Mass.) at fifth singles.

That set the stage for a deciding match on the No. 3 court where Scanlon won the only three-set match of the evening to clinch the win.

Regis returns to action on Regis Fest, hosting Simmons for an 11:00 a.m. match this Saturday. The Rams have a quick turnaround and host Lesley on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
