Women's Tennis Wins NECC Championship Rematch

WESTON, Mass. - The Regis (Mass.) women's tennis team took down Lesley University by a score of 7-2 on Saturday morning at Regis Tennis Center, defeating the Lynx in a rematch of last fall's New England Collegiate Conference Championship.

With the win, the Pride earns its first win of the season, improving to 1-1, while the Lynx fall to 1-2.

The Pride opened up the morning by taking two of three matches in doubles play. Carly Scanlon (Canton, Mass.) and Carly Donovan (Harwich, Mass.) picked up the first win of the day for the Pride at No. 2 doubles, defeating Lesley's Maddie Abbott (Portland, Maine) and Jessica Russo (Watertown, Mass.) 8-3. At first doubles, junior Katasha Jarvis (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) and sophomore Ariana McCormack (Worcester, Mass.) picked up a win for the Pride as well, winning 8-5 over Caroline Kiddie (Scituate, Mass.) and Theresa Pereira (Hopedale, Mass.).

The Pride continued to control the match going into singles, led by Donovan and McCormack who only dropped one game each at first and fourth singles respectively. The match was clinched at third singles by Scanlon, who defeated Pereira 6-2, 6-1. Lesley's lone win in singles play belonged to sophomore Tea Ryder (Gloucester, Mass.), who defeated Pride senior Sara Kanarkiewicz (Peabody, Mass.) 7-5, 7-5 at No. 6 singles.

Lesley will continue its road trip on Wednesday as they travel to Curry for a 3:30 p.m. match. The Pride will play its first ever Great Northeast Athletic Conference match on Saturday, traveling to St. Joseph (Conn.) at 12:00 p.m.
