Women's Tennis Downs Wentworth on Senior Day

WESTON, Mass. - The Regis (Mass.) women's tennis team celebrated its Senior Day in style on Saturday morning, defeating Wentworth by a final of 8-1.

With the win, the Pride moves to 16-1 on the season, while the Leopards end their season at 4-11.

Before the match, Pride head coach John Ciarleglio honored his team's three seniors, Jessie Lord (Fall River, Mass.), Erica Murphy (Portsmouth, N.H.) and Emily Rice (Pittsfield, Mass.). The women's tennis Class of 2017 holds an impressive 60-11 record over the last four years after the win on Saturday, and won all four New England Collegiate Conference championships they competed in during their careers.

The Pride kicked off the morning strong, winning all three of its doubles matches to take an early 3-0 lead. Sophomore Katasha Jarvis (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) and freshman Ariana McCormack (Worcester, Mass.) picked up the 8-5 win at first doubles over Wentworth's Caitlyn Briggs (Lee, Mass.) and Olivia DeLuca (Dracut, Mass.). The Pride duo of Murphy and junior Sara Kanarkiewicz (Peabody, Mass.) won at third singles by an identical 8-5 margin, before the doubles sweep was completed by a Regis win at second doubles, as Lord and freshman Carly Scanlon (Canton, Mass.) downed Emily Jodoin (Burrillville, R.I.) and Veronica Monteiro (North Andover, Mass.) by a score of 8-4.

The Pride continued to roll in singles play to secure their 16th win of the season. Lord picked up the clinching win in her final match at the Regis Tennis Center, defeating Jodoin 6-0, 6-1 at third singles.

The Leopards lone point on the day came at sixth singles, where Wentworth sophomore Kelsey DeGouveia (New Bedford, Mass.) defeated Kanarkiewicz 6-0, 6-2.

The Pride and Leopards both continue their seasons at the UMass Boston Invitational Tournament on Patriots Day, April 17 at 9:00 a.m.
