Women's Tennis Turns Back Salve Regina

WESTON, Mass. – For the first time in program history, the Regis College women's tennis team beat Salve Regina University, doing so in dominating fashion with an 8-1 Senior Day win on Thursday at the Regis Courts. Regis closes the spring season at 18-4 with the Seahawks finishing 4-12. The match was the final home competition for Pride senior Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.)

The tone was set in doubles play where the Pride won all three matches. Katasha Jarvis (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) and Emily Rice (Pittsfield, Mass.) won 8-3 at the two and Amy DiPace (Cambridge, Mass.) and Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.) topped their opponent 8-5 at the three, but the most impressive win came at one doubles. The Pride tandem of Jessie Lord (Fall River, Mass.) and Erica Murphy (Portsmouth, N.H.) found themselves in a 7-3 hole but rallied to win 9-7 and complete the doubles sweep.

Singles play saw some entertaining battles but ultimately it were the Pride that came out on top, losing only on the three court. Murphy won at the one in a third-set tiebreaker 6-1, 1-6, 7-6 (10-6) with Jarvis dropping set one to Abigail Burke (Harwich, Mass.) at the four and rallying for a 4-6, 6-0, 7-6 (10-2) win.

The Pride's lone loss was its most competitive match. Rice fell in a marathon three sets to Salve Regina's Courtney Baily (North Dartmouth, Mass.) 7-6 (7-2), 3-6, 7-6 (10-7).
