Women's Tennis Blanks Wentworth

WESTON, Mass. – In blustery afternoon conditions, the Regis College women's tennis team overwhelmed the Wentworth Institute of Technology, 9-0, Monday at the Regis Courts. The Pride improved to 17-4 with the win while the Hawks fell to 3-11.

Despite blanking the visitors, both doubles and singles play saw competitive action. At first doubles, Erica Murphy (Portsmouth, N.H.) and Jessie Lord (Fall River, Mass.) battled to defeat Caitlyn Briggs (Lee, Mass.) and Emily Jodoin (Burrillville, R.I.), 8-4. The two court featured the tightest doubles match as the Pride duo of Emily Rice (Pittsfield, Mass.) and Katasha Jarvis (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) narrowly edged Emily Butts (Brookfield, Mass.) and Kelsey DeGouveia (New Bedford, Mass.), 9-7. Amy DiPace (Cambridge, Mass.) and Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.) won their three doubles match at love.

Singles action saw the Pride cruise on the two through six courts but produce an exciting first singles match between Murphy and Briggs. Murphy grabbed the first set but Briggs responded with an equally solid set two win. The deciding set was as tight as could be with Murphy winning 13-11 in the tiebreaker.

Regis won all other singles matches in straight sets including Jarvis' 6-0, 6-0 win on the four court.

The Pride will host Salve Regina this Thursday, April 14 to close the regular season. The match will be Senior Day for Jewel Medeiros. Play gets under way at Regis Courts at 4:30 p.m.
