PRIDE WOMEN END SPRING TRIP WITH WIN OVER NITTANY LIONS

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Regis College tennis teams wrapped up their spring break trips with wins. The men's team played Clark University Thursday morning and lost 5-4, but defeated Penn State – Berks, 8-1. The Regis women also competed against the Nittany Lions and won their match with a 8-1 decision. The Pride men moved to 6-5 with the split and the win propelled the Regis women to 14-4

Clark came away with a very close 5 – 4 win. The match began with singles play and Regis sophomore Matt Quattrociocchi (Germantown, Md.) delivered the Pride's first point of the morning with a decisive 6-1, 6-2 win at no. 4 singles. Clark pulled ahead with wins at first and fifth singles. Regis' Jarid Polley (North Reading, Mass.) won at third singles, 6-4, 6-3, as his win pulled the match even. Polley remains undefeated in singles play this week in Orlando. Nick Hildreth (Harvard, Mass.) took Regis' third point with a three-set win at six singles, 6-4, 4-6, 10-5. Freshman Luke Horton (Bass Harbor, Maine) and Clark's Spencer Pinkney delighted the crowd with a major battle for the final singles point. Pinkney prevailed in three sets – 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-5.

In singles play, both teams played some great doubles to determine the final victor. Regis, second dubs duo of Polley and Quattrociocchi came through with an 8-4 win. Clark's initial doubles win came at no. 1 doubles with a score of 8-2. Closing out the victory for Clark was their third doubles team of Pinkney and Andrey Samodaev.

Against PSU, the men started with singles play and swept one through six spots all in two-set wins. Regis' Jarid Polley completed his week going undefeated, 5-0 in singles. Matt Quattrociocchi also won three singles matches in Orlando.

In doubles play, Polley and Quattrociocchi, Regis second doubles duo, fought a tough versus PSB pair of Ryan Fritz and Jerrad Seifrit squeezing out a one-service break win, 8-6. Regis also won at first dubs, 8-3. Third dubs turned into clash between Regis' Austin Nace (Sarasota, Fla.) and Jeremy Morgenbesser (Bayport, N.Y.) against PSB's Will Byler and Grant Batzer. After a seesaw battle, the PSB's team prevailed 8-5.

The Regis women started their match against PSB in doubles play. First and second dubs were 8-3 wins for the Pride. In a battle for the third doubles point senior co-captain, Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.) and sophomore, Amy DiPace (Cambridge, Mass.) lost 8-6.

Up just one point after doubles, the Regis women needed three singles wins for a team victory. At no. 1 singles, Erica Murphy (Portsmouth, N.H.) delivered one of the wins with freshman, Katasha Jarvis (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) bringing home the fourth overall point. Emily Rice (Pittsfield, Mass.) came through for the Pride in a long, hard fourth match at no. 3 singles. Rice won her first set in a tiebreak, 7-6. She won the deciding set 6-3 bringing the Pride their first victory for spring break.

The Pride women return to the court on March 20nd with an away match against Smith at 1:00 p.m. while the Pride men host New England Collegiate Conference opponent Mitchell on March 22th at 4:30 p.m.
