REGIS TENNIS SWEPT BY CORNELL COLLEGE

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Regis College tennis teams dropped both contests to Cornell College today. With the losses, the Pride men drop to 5-4 and the Pride women fall to 13-4.

The men lost by a score of 7-2. Regis played well against a very strong opponent. Regis' first and third doubles stayed with their opponents for most of their matches, in 8-4 and 8-5 decisions, respectively. Cornell also took the no. 3 doubles with a 8-3 score.

The Cornell men dominated singles winning at first, second, third and fifth. At no. 1 and no. 2 singles Regis' Chris Harrow (North Reading, Mass.) and Luke Horton (Bass Harbor, Maine) put up a good fight before succumbing in two sets each. The Pride's only two points came at fourth and sixth singles. Jarid Polley (North Reading, Mass.) remained undefeated in singles play this week winning 6-0, 6-0 at no. 4 singles making it three wins in a row. Nick Hildreth (Harvard, Mass.) delivered Regis' 2nd victory with a 6-1, 6-1 win.

Cornell took all three doubles points and one through five singles before Regis' Amy DiPace (Cambridge, Mass.) brought home Regis' sole point winning 6-3, 6-1 at no. 6 singles. Regis highlights included solid play at third dubs by Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.) and DiPace in their 8-5 loss. Medeiros also fought hard in her defeat at no. 5 singles finally going down 6-2, 6-3. Cornell gave up a total of just five games in their other four singles wins.

The Pride men return to the courts tomorrow for two matches, the first with Clark University at 8:00 a.m. and the second versus Penn State – Berks at 5:30 p.m. Regis' women wrap up their spring break trip against PSU Berks at 5:30 p.m. as well.
