REGIS DOWNS NEWBURY IN NECC ACTION

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College women's tennis team swept Newbury College, 9-0, for the second time this season in a New England Collegiate Conference match on Monday afternoon. The Pride improve to 9-1 overall and 8-0 in the NECC with the win, while Newbury falls to 0-7 overall and in league games.

The Crimson and Gold jumped out to a 3-0 lead in doubles play as the Pride swept No. 1 and No. 3 doubles by matching scores of 8-0. Emily Rice (Pittsfield, Mass.) and Katasha Jarvis (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) added an 8-2 win over Destiny Spears (Arnold, Md.) and Edvana Goncalves (Brockton, Mass.).

Jessie Lord (Fall River, Mass.) defeated Katelynn Bazile (Queens, N.Y.) at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0, while her doubles partner Erica Murphy (Portsmouth, N.H.) picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win over Jessica Russo (Watertown, Mass.) at No. 2 singles. Emily Rice posted a 6-0, 6-1 win over Destiny Spears at No. 3 singles.

Katasha Jarvis, Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.), and Amy DiPace (Cambridge, Mass.) added matching 6-0, 6-0 wins at No.'s 4, 5, and 6 singles, respectively to round out the sweep.

Regis returns to action on Wednesday afternoon when the Pride travels to Mitchell College for a 3:00 p.m. NECC match. Newbury travels to Bay Path University on Wednesday night for a league match at 3:30 p.m.
