MEDEIROS, JARVIS SWEEP NECC TENNIS AWARDS

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College junior Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.) has been named this week's New England Collegiate Conference women's tennis Player of the Week, while teammate Katasha Jarvis (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) has been named the Rookie of the Week, it was announced Monday afternoon.

Medeiros helped lead the Pride to a 2-1 mark this week, going 3-0 at No. 5 singles and 2-1 at No. 3 doubles. Medeiros scored one of two points for the Pride in a 7-2 setback to Johnson & Wales with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles. The senior teamed with Sara Kanarkiewicz (Peabody, Mass.) for a pair of wins in NECC action as the duo allowed only three points in two matches against Becker and Mitchell. Medeiros only dropped one point in a pair of singles wins, winning 6-0, 6-0 against the Mariners and 6-0, 6-1 against Becker.

Jarvis also helped the Pride to a 2-1 mark in three matches this week, including a pair of NECC wins. Against Mitchell, Jarvis teamed with Emily Rice for an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles and she followed the up with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles. When the Pride took on Becker, Jarvis and Rice posted an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles before Jarvis won at No. 4 singles by a score of 6-0, 6-3. This is the third time this season and second straight week Jarvis has been named Rookie of the Week.

Regis returns to the courts tomorrow as they square off against conference opponent Lesley at 4:30 p.m.
