JWU SNAPS PRIDE WIN STREAK AT FOUR

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College women's tennis team suffered their first setback of the year as the Pride (4-1) fell 7-2 to Johnson & Wales University (5-1) on Monday afternoon in non-conference action in Weston, Mass.

The doubles tandem of Jessie Lord (Fall River, Mass.) and Erica Murphy (Portsmouth, N.H.) grabbed the first point of the day for Regis with an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles over Morgan Thompson (Fargo, N.D.) and Victoria Pizzulo (Lafayette, N.J.).

The Wildcats grabbed the other two doubles matches by matching scores of 8-4 as Delaney Macchirole (Greenport, N.Y.) and Emily Glass (Sterling, Conn.) won at No. 2 doubles over Emily Rice (Pittsfield, Mass.) and Katasha Jarvis (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.), while Taylor Klein (Johnson, N.Y.) and Lauren Torre (New Fairfield, Conn.) defeated Sara Kanarkiewicz (Peabody, Mass.) and Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.) at No. 3 doubles.

Jessie Lord suffered a hard-fought 7-5, 6-4 setback at No. 1 singles in her match against Morgan Thompson. Emily Glass needed a first set tie-break to defeat Erica Murphy, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2, while Katasha Jarvis fell in three sets, 2-6, 7-5, 10-6 to Lauren Torre at No. 4 singles. Taylor Klein used a 6-0, 6-2 score to win her No. 3 singles match against Emily Rice, and Delaney Macchirole swept Amy DiPace (Cambridge, Mass.), 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.

Jewel Medeiros grabbed the lone singles win of the day for Regis with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles over Victoria Pizzulo.

The Crimson and Gold return to New England Collegiate Conference action on Wednesday afternoon when the Pride hosts Mitchell College at 4:30 p.m. Johnson & Wales hosts St. Joseph (Conn.) on Saturday afternoon at 12:00 p.m.
