PRIDE SWEEP PAST LYNX IN NECC OPENER

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Regis College opened up New England Collegiate Conference play with a 9-0 sweep of Lesley University this afternoon at the Nicholas Athletics Center. The three-time defending champion Pride improve to 2-0 on the season and kick off conference play at 1-0 while the Lynx fall to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the NECC.

Regis jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the match following doubles play. Senior Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.) and sophomore Sarah Kanarkiewicz (Peabody, Mass.) teamed up for an 8-1 win in number three doubles before junior Emily Rice (Pittsfield, Mass.) and freshman Katasha Jarvis (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) also used an 8-1 score to earn a win in the second doubles match. Regis juniors Jessie Lord (Fall River, Mass.) and Erica Murphy (Portsmouth, N.H.) outlasted Lesley sophomore Caroline Kiddie (Scituate, Mass.) and sophomore Theresa Pereira (Hopedale, Mass.) for a hard fought 8-6 win in the top doubles match.

Lord earned her second victory of the day as she topped Kiddie 6-2, 6-3 in No. 1 singles while Murphy defeated Lesley junior Frances De Leon (Murrieta, Calif.) in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. Rice earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Pereira in third singles before Jarvis, Medeiros, and Amy Dipace (Cambridge, Mass.) all used 6-0, 6-0 scores in fourth, fifth, and sixth singles, respectively, to give the Pride the sweep.

The Lynx will return to the courts on Monday when they head to Eastern Nazarene College in a match rescheduled from September 10th while the Pride will continue NECC play on Tuesday when they travel to Bay Path University. Both matches are set to start at 3:30p.
