PRIDE WRAP UP SEASON WITH SWEEP OF LANCERS

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College women's tennis team wrapped up the 2014-15 season with a 9-0 sweep of Worcester State University on Friday night at the Natick Racquet Club. The Pride finish the year at 15-4 overall, while the Lancers move to 7-7 this season.

Worcester State will wrap up their season next Friday at Clark University.

Regis took a 3-0 lead in the match following doubles play as Erica Murphy (Portsmouth, N.H.) and Emily Morgenbesser (Bayport, N.Y.) posted an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles over Shelby Jankins (West Brookfield, Mass.) and Megan Shepard (Middletown, Conn.). The duo of Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.) and Emily Rice (Pittsfield, Mass.) added a win at No. 2 doubles by the matching score.

Jessie Lord (Fall River, Mass.) and Sara Kanarkiewicz (Peabody, Mass.) rounded out doubles play with an 8-0 sweep of Cassandra Goncalves (Ludlow, Mass.) and Paige Moriarty (Feeding Hills, Mass.) at No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, Murphy defeated Fania Volf (Sharon, Mass.) by the score of 7-5, 6-0, at No. 2 singles, while Morgenbesser added a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles over Shepard. Emily Rice used set scores of 6-4, 6-1, to beat Alexis Silk (Greenfield, Mass.) at No. 4 singles, with Amy DiPace (Cambridge, Mass.) handing Moriarty a 6-1, 6-2 setback at No. 6 singles.

Jewel Medeiros defeated Cassandra Goncalves at No. 5 singles in pro sets, 8-1.

The match of the night came at No. 1 singles as Jessie Lord grabbed the opening set 7-5 over Shelby Jankins. Jankins responded in the second set with a 6-3 win to force a third set tiebreak. Lord answered this time, grabbing a 10-7 win in the tiebreak to secure the 9-0 sweep.
