NEW LONDON, Conn. – Regis College completed its second straight undefeated New England Collegiate Conference women's tennis campaign with a 7-2 victory over Mitchell College on Friday afternoon at the Mack Tennis Courts.

Mitchell (2-8 overall) ended its regular season with a 1-7 record in league play. The Mariners are still in the running for the fourth and final spot in the NECC Championship, but must wait for all teams to conclude NECC play.

Regis swept all three doubles matches with ease before winning four of six singles points. The Pride lost at the top two singles spots but cruised to straight set wins at the bottom four positions. Emily Rice (Pittsfield, Mass.) and Amy DiPace (Cambridge, Mass.) dropped only one game apiece at No. 3 and 5 singles, respectively. Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.) won by scores of 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 4 spot while Kendall Kolb (Plymouth, Mass.) picked up a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 6.

Mitchell freshman Laura Simmons (Emerson, N.J.) earned her best win of the season, defeating Jessie Lord (Fall River, Mass.) by a 7-6 (9-7), 6-2 final at No. 1 singles. Samantha Ryan (Quaker Hill, Conn.) also picked up a point for the Mariners at No. 2 singles when her opponent retired due to illness in the opening set.

Lord and Medeiros earned an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles over the duo of Simmons and Ryan. The teams of Rice and Erica Murphy (Portsmouth, N.H.) and Kolb and DiPace both won by 8-1 finals at the No. 2 and 3 spots, respectively.

The 2014 NECC Women's Tennis Championship will be held on October 18-19 at the site of the highest seed. The Pride will be looking to win their third straight title.
