REGIS DEFEATS BAY PATH, 8-1

LONGMEADOW, Mass. - The Regis College women's tennis team 2014 winning-streak reached six matches after earning an 8-1 victory over New England Collegiate Conference rival Bay Path University on Saturday afternoon at the Grande Meadow Tennis Cub in Longmeadow, Mass. With the victory, the Crimson & Gold move to 8-1, 7-0 NECC on the campaign, and with the loss the Bay Path falls to 4-6, 3-3 NECC.

The victory over the Wildcats extended the Pride's NECC dominance as they have not lost a match in over two years. Regis currently holds a 23-game win-streak against conference rivals with their last loss coming against Becker College on October 1, 2012.

Regis jumped out to an early 2-1 lead following doubles play as Emily Rice (Pittsfield, Mass.) and Erica Murphy (Portsmouth, N.H.) defeated Stephanie Morin (Springfield, Mass.) and Abigail Janneke (Waterbury, Conn.) at No. 1 doubles, 8-2. The Pride also earned a victory at No. 3 doubles as the duo of Amy DiPace (Cambridge, Mass.) and Sara Kanarkiewicz (Peabody, Mass.) upended Yismel Rosario (Methuen, Mass.) and Jessica Phelps (Nashua, N.H.), 8-1.

The Wildcats only victory was in doubles play when Brittany Walsh (North Smithfield, R.I.) and Taylor Wood (Castleton, N.Y.) snuck past the Pride's Kendall Kolb (Plymouth, Mass.) and Jessie Lord (Fall River, Mass.), 8-5.

The Crimson and Gold swept singles play 6-0. Lord earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles over Morin. Murphy defeated Walsh 6-0, 6-1 in No. 2 singles and Emily Rice won 7-5, 6-2 at No. 3 singles over Wood. Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.) degfeated Janneke, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 singles, while DiPace and Erika Palmer (Southborough, Mass.) were both victorious at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.

Regis wraps up regular season play when they travel to New London, Conn to square off against conference foe Mitchell College on Friday October 10th with game-time slated for 3:00 p.m. The Pride have their eyes on a third straight conference championship as the NECC Semifinals begin on Wednesday October 15th.
