REGIS STAYS PERFECT IN NECC WITH 8-1 WIN

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College women's tennis team moved to an unblemished 4-0 in New England Collegiate Conference matches with an 8-1 win over Mitchell College on Saturday afternoon as a part of Regis Pride Fest in Weston, Mass. The Pride improve to 5-1 overall on the year, while the Mariners drop to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in league matches.

Regis jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in doubles play as Jessie Lord (Fall River, Mass.) and Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.) picked up an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles over Laura Simmons (Emerson, N.J.) and Samantha Ryan (Quaker Hill, Conn.). Emily Rice (Pittsfield, Mass.) and Erica Murphy (Portsmouth, N.H.) added an 8-0 sweep of Jenny Groman (New Britain, Conn.) and Veyda McVey (Wallingford, Conn.), while Erika Palmer (Southborough, Mass.) and Sara Kanarkiewicz (Peabody, Mass.) added an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, Lord posted a 6-4, 6-1 win over Laura Simmons. Erica Murphy defeated Groman in straight-sets, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, and Emily Morgenbesser (Bayport, N.Y.) grabbed a 6-1, 6-0 win over Veyda McVey.

Mitchell's lone point of the match came at No. 2 singles as Samantha Ryan fought off Emily Rice for a 6-3, 3-6, 10-8 victory.

Kendall Kolb (Plymouth, Mass.) and Melinda Mara (Pelham, N.H.) added wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively, en route to the 8-1 win.

The Crimson and Gold are back in action on Monday afternoon when they host Becker College in an NECC match scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Mitchell is back on the road on Tuesday when they travel to Bay Path University for a 3:30 p.m. conference match.
