CIARLEGLIO NAMED USPTA NEW ENGLAND COACH OF THE YEAR

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College head men's and women's tennis coach John Ciarleglio has been named the United States Professional Tennis Association's New England Division College Coach of the Year.

On the women's side, Ciarleglio has helped lead the Pride to two-straight New England Collegiate Conference Championships in 2012 and 2013. This season, the Pride went 11-2 overall and 8-0 in the NECC en route to the Championship. Regis won 10-straight matches to close out the season. Over the past two seasons, the Pride are 17-1 in league games and 24-9 overall during that stretch.

Coach Ciarleglio's players have also been well represented at the conference level as the Pride have a back-to-back Player of the Year in Abbie Wehr (Suwanee, Ga.) and the 2013 Rookie of the Year in Emily Rice (Pittsfield, Mass.). Regis has six All-NECC First Team singles selections and eight overall in the past three seasons, with four All-NECC First Team doubles selections and five overall.

This past spring, the Regis men's tennis team won its first-ever New England Collegiate Conference Championship after going a perfect 10-0 in the NECC regular season and 12-8 overall. In 2012, the Pride went 13-7 overall and 9-1 in the regular season before making it to the Championship match. Ciarleglio was also named the NECC Coach of the Year last season in men's tennis.

The men's team has also been well decorated as junior Michael Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) has won two-straight NECC Player of the Year awards as well as the 2012 Rookie of the Year award. The Pride have had six All-NECC singles players named, including four First Team selections, while the team has had a pair of First Team doubles selections.

Off the court, Regis has been equally successful in the classroom. Regis has had 13 ITA All-Academic Scholar Athletes over the past two seasons, while the women's team won a team award in 2013, and the men's team won a team award in 2012.

Ciarleglio was honored on Saturday, November 2 at the UPSPTA Annual Convention Awards Luncheon at the Woodstock Inn.
