REGIS TENNIS HONORED BY ITA

SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Regis College men's and women's tennis teams have been honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) with ITA All-Academic Team Awards, it was announced this weekend. The Pride also had three members of its women's team, and four members of the men's squad named as ITA Scholar Athletes.

For the women, Jessie Lord (Fall River, Mass.), Melinda Mara (Pelham, N.H.), and Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.) were all named ITA Scholar Athletes in addition to the team award. This marks the second time that Mara and Medeiros have been selected.

On the men's side, three-time NECC Player of the Year Michael Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) was named an ITA Scholar Athlete for the second time, and he was joined by the freshman duo of John Corraccio (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Nick Hildreth (Harvard, Mass.). Graduating senior Jeff Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) was also named a Scholar Athlete after being named Regis College's Male Regis-Casserly Award winner. The team also earned an ITA All-Academic Team Award.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA/CA JUCO eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2013 and spring 2014).

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
