PRIDE ADVANCE TO NECC CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

WESTON, Mass. – Top-seeded Regis College defeated #4 Becker College, 9-0, on Wednesday afternoon in the New England Collegiate Conference Women's Tennis Semifinals in Weston, Mass. Regis is seeking its second-straight NECC Championship after taking home the title in 2012.

The Pride (10-2) will host the NECC Championship on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. and take on the winner of the other semifinal match between #2 Bay Path College and #3 Lesley University. Becker wraps up its season at 3-11 overall.

In doubles play, Regis grabbed an early 3-0 lead as they were able to sweep all three doubles matches. Abbie Wehr (Suwanee, Ga.) and Emily Rice (Pittsfield, Mass.) grabbed an 8-0 win over Cameron Murphy (Weymouth, Mass.) and Anna Pilip (New Britain, Conn.) at the top doubles spot. Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.) and Jessie Lord (Fall River, Mass.) defeated Kerry Saltvick (Bakersfield, Calif.) and Shauna Buckley (Danvers, Mass.) by a matching score in No. 2 doubles, while Kendall Kolb (Plymouth, Mass.) and Erica Murphy (Portsmouth, N.H.) combined for an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles over Lily Woodward-Logan (Berkeley, Calif.) and Chenylle Mercado (Tyngsboro, Mass.).

Abbie Wehr grabbed the fourth point of the day for the Pride with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Cameron Murphy at No.1 singles, while Rice clinched the match for Regis with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Anna Pilip at No. 1 singles. Erika Palmer (Southborough, Mass.) won her No. 6 singles matchup, 6-1, 6-1 over Mercado to go with singles wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles from Jessie Lord and Winnie Mataganyidze (Lynn, Mass.).

Woodward-Logan had the best chance of the day for the Hawks as she was able to win the opening set of her No. 5 singles matchup with Kat Troisi (Lynn, Mass.) 7-6, taking the tiebreaker 7-1. Troisi rebounded in the second set with a 6-2 win to even the match at one set apiece, and took home the victory with a 10-7 win in the third set tiebreaker for the Pride.
