REGIS WOMEN’S TENNIS COMPLETES UNDEFEATED NECC SEASON

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Regis College women's tennis team completed a clean sweep through the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) regular season by defeating Mitchell College, 9-0, Friday afternoon at the Mack Tennis Courts.

The Pride (9-2 overall) improved to 8-0 in league play and will be the top-ranked team at the 2013 NECC Championship, which begins with semifinals play on October 16. Regis becomes the third team in NECC women's tennis history to go undefeated in conference play, joining Bay Path College (6-0 in 2008) and Becker College (9-0 in 2011).

Regis dominated all three doubles matches before moving on to win all but one singles match in straight sets. The Pride nearly blanked the Mariners in doubles, posting 8-0 wins at both No. 1 and 3 and an 8-1 victory at No. 2.

Two Mitchell seniors played in the final matches of their careers in singles. Carly Paterson (Gales Ferry, Conn.) lost to Abbie Wehr (Suwanee, Ga.) at the top spot by scores of 6-0, 6-1, and Chelsea Arpin (Killingly, Conn.) fell to Melinda Mara (Pelham, N.H.) at No. 4 by a final of 6-2, 6-4.

Emily Rice (Pittsfield, Mass.), Winnie Mataganyidze (Lynn, Mass.) and Kat Troisi (Lynn, Mass.) all recorded decisive wins at No. 2, 3 and 5 singles, respectively. The most competitive singles match of the day came at the No. 6 position, where the Pride's Erika Palmer (Southborough, Mass.) rebounded from a second set loss to win a 10-point tiebreaker to defeat Ariel Hallisey (Quaker Hill, Conn.) by a final of 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7).
