WEHR, RICE SWEEP NECC WEEKLY HONORS

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College's Abbie Wehr (Suwanee, Ga.) has been named the New England Collegiate Conference's Player of the Week in women's tennis, it was announced on Monday afternoon by the league offices. The Pride's Emily Rice (Pittsfield, Mass.) was also named the league's top rookie this week as the duo swept the NECC weekly awards.

This marks the second time this season they have swept the awards, and it is Wehr's second weekly award this year, while Rice has won three times.

Wehr helped lead the Pride to a perfect 4-0 mark in last week's matches, including three NECC matches. Wehr was a perfect 4-0 at the top singles spot and only dropped one set all week. Wehr posted a 6-1, 6-2, win against Becker and followed that up with 6-0, 6-1, win against Lesley. In a matchup of the top two teams in the NECC, Wehr won her No. 1 singles match 6-3, 6-4 in a 7-2 win over Bay Path, and added a 6-7, 6-4, 10-6 win over the Wildcats on Sunday.

Wehr and Rice went a perfect 4-0 in No. 1 doubles play this week, never allowing more than three points in all four wins.

Rice was equally as impressive as Wehr this week, going a perfect 4-0 at the No. 2 singles spot for the Pride. Rice win her match against Becker, 6-3, 6-1, and had a 7-5, 6-1 win against Lesley. Emily Rice won both of her matches against Bay Path over the weekend with a 6-1, 6-4 win on Saturday followed by a 6-2, 6-3 win on Sunday.

The Regis College women's tennis team returns to action on Friday afternoon as they wrap up the 2013 regular season with a 3:30 p.m. match at Mitchell College.
