PRIDE BEAT BAY PATH, 7-2

WESTON, Mass. – In a rematch of the 2012 New England Collegiate Conference women's tennis championship match, Regis College defeated Bay Path College, 7-2, on Saturday afternoon in Weston, Mass. Regis stays perfect in NECC play at 6-0 and 7-2 overall, while the Wildcats fall to 8-3 overall and 5-1 in league games.

The Pride jumped out to an early 2-1 lead after doubles play as Abbie Wehr (Suwanee, Ga.) and Emily Rice (Pittsfield, Mass.) swept Symone Watson (Hamden, Conn.) and Stephanie Morin (Springfield, Mass.), 8-0, at the top doubles spot. Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.) and Jessie Lord (Fall River, Mass.) added an 8-2 win in No. 2 doubles, while Bay Path's Taylor Wood (Castleton, N.Y.) and Brittany Walsh (North Smithfield, R.I.) grabbed an early point for the Wildcats in No. 3 doubles with an 8-5 win.

Regis took five of the six singles matches to grab a 7-2 win in a matchup of the top two teams in the NECC. Abbie Wehr posted a 6-3, 6-4 win over Symone Watson in No. 1 singles, while Emily Rice won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. Jewel Medeiros improved to 6-1 in singles play this year with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles over Brittany Walsh.

Erica Murphy battled to a win in three sets over Teanna Montoya as she rallied back from a 5-2 deficit in the third set to win 6-3, 4-6, 10-7 at No. 5 singles. Freshman Jessie Lord came back from being down a break in the first set to win 7-5, 6-2, at No. 4 singles. Bay Path's lone point of singles play came from Abigail Janneke (Waterbury, Conn.) as she won at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-2.

The Pride and Bay Path battle again tomorrow afternoon as the two teams finish singles play from a match started on September 21 at 2:00 p.m. in Longmeadow, Mass.
