REGIS BLANKS MITCHELL FOR THIRD STRAIGHT WIN

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College captured a convincing 9-0 win over visiting Mitchell College in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's tennis action on Saturday afternoon. The Pride, who claim their third straight victory, improve to 4-2 overall and remain unbeaten at 3-0 in league play.

Sophomore Abbie Wehr (Suwanee, Ga.) and freshman Emily Rice (Pittsfield, Mass.) registered wins in both singles and doubles play to lead the Pride.

Regis started the day by sweeping all three doubles matches. Wehr and Rice won first doubles, 8-2 over Carly Paterson (Gales Ferry, Conn.) and Samantha Ryan (Quaker Hill, Conn.). Another sophomore-freshman pair, Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.) and Jessie Lord (Fall River, Mass.), captured an 8-1 win at second doubles, while freshmen Kat Troisi (Lynn, Mass.) and Winnie Mataganyidze (Lynn, Mass.) defeated their Mitchell opponents by an 8-3 mark at No. 3 doubles.

Four other Regis players came up big in singles play to solidify the win, including junior Kendall Kolb (Plymouth, Mass.), who defeated Chelsea Arpin (Killingly, Conn.), 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles to clinch the match for the Pride. Freshman Erica Murphy (Portsmouth, Mass.) used the same set scores to get past Ryan at third singles.

Sophomore Melinda Mara (Pelham, N.H.) and Rice each won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Wehr once again got past Paterson at the first position (6-2, 6-1), and junior Erika Palmer (Southborough, Mass.) closed out sixth singles with a win over junior Ariel Hallisey (Quaker Hill, Conn.) (7-5, 6-4).
