WEHR, RICE SWEEP NECC WEEKLY AWARDS

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College's Abbie Wehr (Suwanee, Ga.) has been named the New England Collegiate Conference's Player of the Week in women's tennis, it was announced on Monday afternoon by the league offices. The Pride's Emily Rice (Pittsfield, Mass.) was named the league's top rookie this week as the duo swept the NECC weekly awards.

Wehr helped lead the Pride to a 1-1 week last week after going a perfect 2-0 at both the No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles position. She grabbed two of the Pride's four points in a 5-4 setback to Salem State, and followed that up with two more wins at the top singles and doubles spots in a 9-0 victory over Lesley. Wehr is 3-1 this year at No. 1 singles and is a perfect 2-0 in NECC matches.

Wehr's doubles partner Emily Rice was named the NECC Rookie of the Week after going 1-1 at No. 2 singles and teaming with Wehr to go 2-0 at No. 1 doubles. Rice picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win against Lesley in her singles match, while her and Abbie Wehr posted 8-0 and 8-6 wins in doubles play. Rice is 2-2 this year at No. 2 singles and the duo of Rice and Wehr is 3-1 at the top doubles position.

The Regis College women's tennis team returns to action on Monday afternoon when the Pride travel to Eastern Nazarene College for a 3:30 p.m. match.
