VIKINGS EDGE REGIS, 5-4

SALEM, Mass. – Salem State slipped past Regis College, 5-4, on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference women's tennis action in Salem, Mass.

Abbie Wehr (Suwanee, Ga.) and Emily Rice (Pittsfield, Mass.) recorded a victory at No. 1 singles for the Pride, but that would be the lone point of double play for the visitors. Salem State's Lauren Woods (Burlington, Mass.) teamed with Hillary Gustafson (Belchertown, Mass.) to defeat Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.) and Jessie Lord (Fall River, Mass.), 9-8 in a tie-breaker at the second doubles position, and later earned a key point at No. 2 singles with an 8-5 win over Emily Rice (Pittsfield, Mass.).

Emily Yanchun (Saugus, Mass.) and Tara Garvey (Palmer, Mass.) clinched the doubles portion for the Vikings with an 8-1 victory over Kendall Kolb (Plymouth, Mass.) and Erika Palmer (Southborough, Mass.) at third doubles

Wehr, Medeiros and Lord all won their singles matches for Regis as Wehr defeated April McDermott (Tewksbury, Mass.) 8-4, while Medeiros won a hard fought match over Katie Razzaboni(Hooksett, N.H.) 8-6 in third singles, and Lord won 8-0 at No. 4. Yanchun and Garvey came up big at No. 5 and No. 6 singles to clinch the victory for Salem State.

Yanchun won 8-3 over Winnie Mataganyidze (Lynn, Mass.) and Garvey defeated Melinda Mara (Pelham, N.H.) 8-2.

The Pride return to action on Thursday night when they take on Lesley University in a 7:00 p.m. matchup.
