REGIS GRABS FIRST WIN IN NECC ACTION

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College posted a 9-0 victory over visiting Becker College on Saturday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference women's tennis action. The Pride move to 1-1 (1-0 NECC) on the year, while the Hawks drop to 1-4 (0-1 NECC).

The Pride took an early 3-0 lead following doubles play as Abbie Wehr (Suwanee, Ga.) and Emily Rice (Pittsfield, Mass.) picked up their first win of the year with an 8-1 victory over Cameron Murphy (Weymouth, Mass.) and Anna Pilip (New Britain, Conn.) at the top doubles spot. Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.) and Jessie Lord (Fall River, Mass.) added an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles, while Kendall Kolb (Plymouth, Mass.) and Erika Palmer (Southborough, Mass.) wrapped up doubles play with an 8-3 win over Lily Woodward-Logan (Berkeley, Calif.) and Chenylle Mercado (Tyngsboro, Mass.).

In singles play, Medeiros posted a straight-set 6-0, 6-0 win over Kerry Saltvick (Bakersfield, Calif.) and Melinda Mara (Pelham, N.H.) defeated Mercado by the same score at No. 6 singles. Abbie Wehr picked up her first singles win of the year with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Cameron Murphy, while Emily Rice added her first win of the year at No. 2 singles. Erica Murphy (Portsmouth, N.H.) also added her first career win, while Jessie Lord's 6-2, 6-0 win over Shauna Buckley (Danvers, Mass.) sealed the match for the Pride.

Regis steps out of conference play on Tuesday afternoon when the Pride travels to Salem State University for a match at 3:30 p.m. Becker looks for its first NECC win of the year on Tuesday when the Hawks host Bay Path College at 3:30 p.m.
