WILDCATS SWEEP PRIDE IN SEASON OPENER

WESTON, Mass. – Johnson & Wales University improved to 3-0 with a 9-0 victory over Regis College in non-conference women's tennis action on Thursday night in Weston, Mass. The Pride fall to 0-1 on the year with the setback.

The Wildcats jumped out to an early 3-0 lead following doubles play as Samantha Jo Borr (Westfield, N.J.) and Stephanie Piperis (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) defeated Abbie Wehr (Suwanee, Ga.) and Emily Rice (Pittsfield, Mass.) at No. 1 doubles, 8-5. JWU's Darcy Predieri (Sunbury, Ohio) and Morgan Thompson combined for an 8-2 win in No. 2 doubles, while Ansley Sego (Naperville, Ill.) and Gabrielle Longo (Philadelphia, Pa.) shutout Kendall Kolb (Plymouth, Mass.) Winnie Mataganyidze (Lynn, Mass.), 9-0, in No. 3 doubles.

Borr continued her strong play at the top singles position with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Wehr. JWU's Piperis picked up a 6-3, 6-3 win over Emily Rice and Morgan Thompson won 6-4, 6-0 win over Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.) at No. 3 singles. The Wildcats' Darcy Predieri, Victoria Ricciardi (Binghamton, N.Y.), and Shaline Motiramani won at No.4, No. 5, and No. 6 singles, respectively.

Regis College opens New England Collegiate Conference play on Saturday afternoon as the Pride hosts Becker College in a 12:30 p.m. match. Johnson & Wales returns to the courts on Friday afternoon when they host Bridgewater State University at 4:30 p.m.
