COACH CIARLEGLIO ANNOUNCES 2013 RECRUITING CLASS

WESTON, Mass. - Coach Ciarleglio and the Regis College's women's tennis team are excited to welcome Jessie Lord (Fall River, Mass.), Erica Murphy (Portsmouth, N.H.) and Kathleen Troisi (Lynn, Mass.), Winnie Mataganyidze (Lynn, Mass.), and Emily Rice (Pittsfield, Mass.). Coach C is looking forward to another successful season in the NECC and these three players should help the Pride capture a second-straight NECC Championship.

Jessie Lord will be a solid addition to the Regis College women's tennis team. She has been playing tennis since her freshman year of high school and is currently playing No. 1 for BMC Durfee High School while serving as the team's captain. Over the summer and winter months, Jessie works very hard on her game by attending clinics and camps. Along with tennis, Jessie has also played volleyball on the Durfee team as an outside hitter and back row passer. Outside of tennis Jessie plays Double Bass for her school's orchestra and enjoys crafts, like bracelet making and knitting. Jessie is considering a math education major at Regis College.

Erica Murphy joins the Regis team after four years of varsity tennis at Portsmouth High School. Erica began playing at age 10, being taught primarily by her father. She competed in many tournaments over the years as she worked diligently to improve her game while also regularly attending tennis camps in the summers. Starting as a varsity player her freshman year, she moved to #6 singles her junior year and has been playing #4 or #5 in her senior year. Outside of playing tennis, Erica enjoys hanging out with friends, running, going to the beach, and going out to eat. She is currently undecided major-wise, but has a number of academic interests. She is very excited about playing on the Regis women's team and is looking forward to all the opportunities that Regis College offers.

Kathleen Troisi comes to Regis with a strong dedication to the sport of tennis since the age of seven. She continued to play throughout high school and is currently the team captain and No. 1 singles player for St. Mary's High School. Troisi works on her tennis year round. Kat likes to keep herself busy off the court by participating in a wide range of activities, including helping coach a middle school girls' basketball team as well as working an afterschool job. Kat recently took a Spanish immersion trip to Costa Rica and had a great experience. She chose Regis for its tough curriculum and the family atmosphere she experienced while visiting the campus. Kat will be studying biology with an eye towards medical school.

Winnie Mataganyidze played varsity tennis for Lynn Classical High School for the last three years, rising from 2nd doubles her sophomore year, to 3rd singles her junior year and finished her high school career at 1st singles. She and her mom moved to the U.S. from Zimbabwe in December 2010 and Mataganyidze has played tennis in school from the 3rd grade on. At her school in Zimbabwe, every student was required to play two sports and Winnie chose tennis and field hockey and Winnie was selected for the national field hockey team in 2010. She really enjoys playing tennis, likes the individual competition and team aspect as well. Mataganyidze plans to take Regis' Public Health Administration major and chose Regis because of this major and a desire to stay closer to home. Winnie's music interests are dance hall and hip hop.

Emily Rice began playing tennis at age 8. Her parents played tennis and started Emily in a kid's clinic. Rice has attended St. Joesph's Central High School since the eighth grade, but since St. Joseph's doesn't have a tennis team, she played her high school tennis at Taconic High School. Emily played varsity all four years and has been the team captain for the last two seasons. In her junior and senior years, she played 2nd and 1st singles. Rice plays tennis year-round and this has paid off as she competed in the Mass. State Individual Tournament for the last three years. Emily has another major athletic interest as she is very active in figure skating and coaches the sport as well. Rice will be a biology major at Regis and in the pre-med program.
