REGIS DROPS 7-2 DECISION TO FRANKLIN PIERCE

RINDGE, N.H. – Visiting Regis College dropped a 7-2 match to host Franklin Pierce University on Friday afternoon in nonconference women's tennis action. The Pride, who fall to 13-5 on the year with the loss, were led by sophomore Vanneyra Chum (Lowell, Mass.) and the freshman duo of Melinda Mara (Pelham, N.H.) and Abigail Wehr (Suwanee, Ga.).

After dropping No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, Mara and Wehr teamed up at third doubles to capture a 9-7 win over the Ravens' Melissa Cohen (Queens, N.Y.) and Christine Boulanger (East Hampton, Conn.) to get the Pride on the board.

In singles play, Natasha McCarthy (Rindge, N.H.) was able to get past Wehr, 7-5, 6-0 at the No. 1 position, while Kirby Melbourne (Ranco Sante Fe, Calif.) and Emily Parrett (Amherst, N.H.) also defeated the Pride's Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.) and Caroline Roche (Hanover, Mass.) in second and third singles, respectively. Melbourne defeated Medeiros by a 6-4, 6-1 decision and Parrett got past Roche, 6-1 and 6-0.

Leslie Rodgers (Westminster, Md.) and Cohen of the Ravens won each of their singles matches after putting up back-to-back 6-0 set scores. Rodgers defeated Erika Palmer (Southborough, Mass.) at No. 4 singles, while Cohen defeated Mara at fifth singles.

Chum recorded the lone singles win of the day for Regis at the sixth position. The sophomore defeated Boulanger, 8-4 to claim the win.

The Ravens, who improve to 3-6 with their victory, will be back in action tomorrow morning when they host Le Moyne at 10:00 a.m. The Pride will next host Assumption on Monday, April 8 at 4:30 p.m.
