REGIS ADVANCES TO FIRST NECC FINAL

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College defeated Newbury College 6-3 on Wednesday night in the New England Collegiate Conference Women's Tennis Semifinals. The Pride (12-1) advances to their first ever NECC Championship match on Saturday afternoon. Newbury wraps up the year at 6-10 overall.

Regis College jumped out to an early 2-1 lead following doubles play. Kendall Kolb (Plymouth, Mass.) and Melinda Mara (Pelham, N.H.) grabbed the first point of the day for the Pride with an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles over Newbury's Hannah Weiner (Barrington, R.I.) and Hazel Gammad (Needham, Mass.). The No. 1 doubles tandem of Abigail Wehr (Suwanee, Ga.) and Jazz Hicks (Plymouth, Mass.) grabbed the second point as they defeated the Nighthawks' Jennifer Swafford (Merrimack, N.H.) and Alexandra Derderian (North Providence, R.I.) by the matching score of 8-1.

Newbury's lone doubles victory came at No. 2 doubles as Julie MacLeod (Buffalo, N.Y.) and Sarah Harris (Easton, Conn.) defeated Caroline Roche (Hanover, Mass.) and Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.), 8-3.

Wehr and Hicks made quick work in their singles matches as Wehr defeated Swafford, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles and Hicks defeated Sarah Harris by the matching score at No. 2 singles. The Pride's Vanneyra Chum (Lowell, Mass.) clinched the deciding point for Regis with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Hannah Weiner in No. 6 singles. Jewel Medeiros followed with a straight-set, 6-1, 6-1 win over Derderian in No. 3 singles.

Newbury grabbed a point at No. 4 singles as Julie MacLeod defeated Kendall Kolb, 6-4, 6-2. The Nighthawks' Hazel Gammad wrapped up the match with a 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 10-6 marathon victory over Caroline Roche in No. 5 singles.

The Pride will host the winner of No. 2 seed Becker College and No. 3 seed Bay Path College on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
