PRIDE DEFEAT MITCHELL, SECURE TOP SEED IN NECC PLAYOFFS

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Regis women's tennis team wrapped up the top seed in the upcoming New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship with a 9-0 victory over Mitchell College on the final day of regular season play for each squad. Regis improves to 11-1 overall and 9-1 in conference play.

The Pride took all three doubles points before sweeping every singles match in straight sets. Abigail Wehr (Suwanee, Ga.) and Jazz Hicks (Plymouth, Mass.) posted an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles and then went on to claim singles victories at the No. 1 and 2 spots, respectively. Wehr defeated Carly Paterson (Gales Ferry, Conn.) 6-0, 6-4 while Hicks topped Alexa Litwak (Dix Hills, N.Y.) 6-1, 6-0.

Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.) and Caroline Roche (Hanover, Mass.) teamed up to defeat Litwak and Julie Embley (Lawrenceville, N.J.) at No. 2 doubles by an 8-0 score, and Kendall Kolb (Plymouth, Mass.) and Paige Pasley (Dorchester, Mass.) posted an 8-3 victory over Dominque Lacroix (Parker, Colo.) and Chelsea Arpin (Killingly, Conn.) in No. 3 doubles. Kolb and Medeiros also posted victories in No. 3 and 4 singles, respectively.

Venneyra Chum (Lowell, Mass.) bested Lacroix at No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-0, and Maryse Emungu (South Burlington, Vt.) wrapped up the day with a win over Arpin at No. 6 singles.

The Pride earned the right to host throughout the Championship, which begins with semifinals action on Wednesday, Oct. 17th. Mitchell falls to 3-9 overall and 3-7 in the NECC, and will narrowly miss the playoffs after falling to fifth place.
