REGIS CLIPS NIGHTHAWKS, 8-1

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College won its third-straight match with an 8-1 victory over Newbury College on Friday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference women's tennis action at the Natick Racquet Club. The Pride improve to 10-1 overall and 8-1 in the NECC, while Newbury drops to 5-9 overall and 3-6 in league games.

The Pride started the day with an early 3-0 lead following doubles play. Abigail Wehr (Suwanee, Ga.) and Jazz Hicks (Plymouth, Mass.) defeated Jennifer Swafford (Merrimack, N.H.) and Alexandra Derderian (North Providence, R.I.) in No. 1 doubles by a score of 8-3. Paige Pasley (Dorchester, Mass.) and Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.) added an 8-6 win in No. 2 doubles over Sarah Harris (Easton, Conn.) and Julie MacLeod (Buffalo, N.Y.). The Pride won the final doubles match by default.

Wehr and Hicks carried their strong play over to singles action as Wehr posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over Swafford at No. 1 singles and Jazz Hicks defeated Sarah Harris, 6-0, 6-1 in No. 2 singles. Medeiros used matching set scores of 6-1, 6-1 to defeat Derderian in No. 3 singles, while Melinda Mara (Pelham, N.H.) and Vanneyra Chum (Lowell, Mass.) added wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.

Newbury's lone point of the day came at No. 4 singles as Julie MacLeod defeated Caroline Roche (Hanover, Mass.), 6-2, 6-1.

Both teams wrap up NECC regular season play on Saturday afternoon. The Pride travel to Mitchell College for a 1:00 p.m. matchup with the Mariners, while Newbury travels to Bay Path for a 1:00 p.m. match as well.
